Recently, ZTE, China Unicom, Qualcomm Technologies and TVU Networks jointly announced that Sifang successfully completed the world’s first demonstration of the 5G mmWave 8K video backhaul service based on the large uplink frame structure in the 26GHz (n258) frequency band in a laboratory environment.
This demonstration was carried out under the technical guidance of the IMT-2020 (5G) promotion group and China Unicom, using the dual-connection technology of the 26GHz millimeter-wave frequency band and the 900MHz LTE frequency band, of which the millimeter-wave uplink peak rate reached 930Mbps. ZTE provides 5G millimeter wave base stations in this demonstration, and TVU Networks’ 5G multi-network aggregation router is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon? The 5G millimeter-wave connection provided by the X55 5G modem and RF system and the CPE-shaped test terminal of the Qualcomm QTM527 millimeter-wave antenna Module realizes stable backhaul of the 8K video content collected in real time through the 5G millimeter-wave uplink, and finally transmits the 8K video content in real time. The receiver successfully receives it for playback.
According to the 5G millimeter wave test plan of the IMT-2020 (5G) promotion group, the millimeter wave large uplink frame structure will be promoted in 2021 to support differentiated application scenarios. Ultra-high-definition video, especially the real-time backhaul of 8K video, has very high requirements on the uplink bandwidth of the mobile network. The DSUUU frame structure used in this demonstration triples the peak uplink rate of existing mmWave technology by allocating more time slots to the uplink. The demonstration verifies the super uplink capability of 5G mmWave, which is of great significance for meeting the large uplink bandwidth requirements of many 5G industry applications in the future.
2021 is the year of “accelerated popularization” of 5G. 5G is accelerating the empowerment of thousands of industries and injecting new momentum into the development of the digital economy. Different from the traditional downstream large-bandwidth service requirements in the consumer terminal market, some vertical industry applications have put forward new requirements for greatly improving upstream transmission. As an important part of 5G, mmWave has many advantages in performance, including enhancing the network capacity of the uplink, effectively meeting the business needs of 5G vertical industries.
Taking this breakthrough business demonstration as an example, it not only demonstrated the technical advantages of 5G millimeter wave with high bandwidth, high capacity and low latency, but also highlighted the uplink enhancement capability of 5G millimeter wave in promoting the live media and live broadcast of large-scale events and activities. It plays an important role in effectively dealing with public network scenarios such as stadiums/concerts that require large uplink bandwidth. At the same time, this business demonstration also paves the way for the development of more industry applications and services, such as multi-point concurrent upload of ultra-high-definition video surveillance in telemedicine, smart factories, and smart ports, and precise remote guidance/control, etc. .
In terms of policy, my country is also promoting the industrialization of 5G mmWave. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China stated earlier this year that it will continue to organize 5G millimeter wave trials in 2021, and plan ahead and systematically plan the future development of the industry. The “5G Application “Sailing” Action Plan (2021-2023)” issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in April also proposed to organize the research and development and end-to-end testing of 5G millimeter wave base stations, accelerate the maturity of technology and products, and lay the foundation for the commercial use of 5G millimeter waves. industrial base.[Click to read the full text of the “5G Application “Sail” Action Plan (2021-2023)”: The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has asked for comments on the development of 5G applications: the penetration rate of 5G personal users will exceed 40% by 2023]
