ADP2384/ADP2386: Step-Down DC/DC Controller Reference Solution

ADI’s ADP2384/ADP2386 are two high-efficiency, synchronous step-down DC/DC regulators in 4mm × 4mm LFCSP packages, which integrate a 44mΩ high-side detection power MOSFET and a 11.6mΩ (ADP2384), 11mΩ (ADP2386) Synchronous rectifier MOSFET device. To achieve outstanding stability and transient response characteristics, the device uses a peak current mode, fixed frequency pulse width modulation control scheme. The switching frequency of the ADP2384/ADP2386 devices can be programmed from 200kHz to 1.4MHz. To reduce system noise, a synchronization function allows the switching frequency to be synchronized by an external clock. At the same time, it also has the functions of under-voltage shutdown, over-voltage protection, over-current protection, short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown.

The ADP2384 is a synchronous step-down DC/DC regulator that integrates a 44MΩ, high-side power MOSFET and a 11.6MΩ, synchronous rectifier MOSFET to provide a high-efficiency solution (in a compact 4mm x 4mm LFCSP package). The device utilizes a peak current mode, constant frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) control scheme for excellent stability and transient response. The switching frequency of the ADP2384 can be programmed (from 200kHz to 1.4MHz). To reduce system noise, a synchronization function can synchronize the switching frequency to an external clock.

The ADP2384 requires only minimal external components and operates from an input voltage of 4.5 V to 20 V. The output voltage is adjustable (0.6 V to 90% of the input voltage) and can deliver up to 4 A continuous current. When off, each IC draws less than 120µA from the input source.

This regulator is designed for high performance applications (high efficiency and design flexibility). External compensation and an adjustable soft-start feature provide design flexibility. Power-good outputs and precision inputs provide simple and reliable power sequencing.

Other key features include: Under Voltage Lockout (UVLO), Over Voltage Protection (OVP), Over Current Protection (OCP), Short Circuit Protection (SCP), Thermal Shutdown (TSD).
