Amazon said the employee took a leave of absence on February 25 due to illness, and the company learned on Tuesday that the person had contracted the novel coronavirus and had notified all colleagues who had been in contact with him. The employee used to work at Amazon’s South Lake Union office building in Seattle.

Amazon also added that the risk of infection for employees who were not in close contact with an infected person was “very low” and asked all employees with symptoms to stay home and seek medical care. “We are providing active support to our quarantined employees,” the company said in a statement.

Amazon has previously confirmed that two employees of the company in Milan, Italy, have contracted the new coronavirus and are currently in quarantine.

Amazon had earlier asked employees to avoid all non-essential travel within and outside the U.S. In addition, Amazon is changing hiring from in-person interviews to video interviews.
