Lattice Extends Industry-Leading Safety and System Control Capabilities to Automotive Applications

Shanghai, China – September 17, 2020 – Lattice semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: LSCC), a leading provider of low-power programmable devices, today announced the availability of new versions of MachXO3LF™ FPGAs and MachXO3D™ FPGAs for Flexibility to deploy reliable automotive control applications and achieve system safety, both supporting extended operating temperature ranges for automotive and other harsh-environment applications. MachXO3D FPGAs feature industry-leading security features, including hardware Root of Trust (RoT), Platform Firmware Protection Recovery (PFR), and secure dual-boot support, greatly enhancing the popular system control capabilities of Lattice’s MachXO FPGA architecture. MachXO3D and MachXO3LF devices are targeted at control, bridging, and IO expansion applications that require robust operation in harsh environments, including advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), infotainment systems, motor control, 5G communication infrastructure, industrial robotics and automation systems, and military system.

Market demands such as electric vehicles, autonomous driving, ADAS, and in-vehicle infotainment systems have greatly increased OEMs’ reliance on Electronic components for automotive systems. Deloitte predicts that by 2030, electronic systems will account for 45% of the cost of new vehicles. As more sensors and electric motors are used in vehicles, systems become more vulnerable to malicious attacks. OEMs must be able to instantly detect vulnerabilities and prevent cyber-attacks, as well as electronic systems that can operate stably and securely in harsh environments.

According to McKinsey & Company, autonomous vehicle systems must withstand harsh environments, requiring weather resistance, shock resistance, and stable connections. The MachXO3D FPGA family builds on the MachXO3LF family of devices and adds a hardware security engine that protects, detects and recovers firmware from unauthorized access.

“By partnering with Lattice, a leading supplier of low-power FPGAs, we are able to provide developers in the automotive market with ready-to-use IP that accelerates the implementation of CAN and LIN network controllers,” said Nikos Zervas, CEO of CAST. Simplify their design work. With support for an extended temperature range in automotive and other harsh-environment applications, the new MachXO3D automotive family of FPGAs allows developers to easily meet performance and power goals, get products to market faster, and significantly enhance control system safety .”

Jay Aggarwal, director of chip product marketing at Lattice Semiconductor, said: “The server market has widely adopted the MachXO architecture for control and safety applications. Today, as vehicles integrate more processor-based, server-like systems into their designs, we decided to Expanding this hardware ecosystem to bring low power, small size, and secure system control to automotive and harsh environment applications. These devices, combined with Lattice’s Sentry firmware security and mVision smart vision solutions collection, will greatly accelerate the next generation of system development.”

MachXO3LF and MachXO3D FPGAs are now supported by Lattice Diamond®, Lattice’s integrated design software suite that provides a complete GUI-based FPGA design and verification environment with leading design and implementation tools optimized for Lattice low-power FPGAs . As of today, the latest version of Lattice Diamond has been updated to 3.11.3.

Key features of the new MachXO3LF and MachXO3D FPGA families include:

Supports extended temperature range from -40°C to +125°C (junction temperature)

Reliable Control – Instant-on control center powers up the platform reliably and simplifies deployment with:

o 3.3V or 1.2V single power supply

o Highest I/O logic ratio

o Determinable I/O results, eliminating power-on glitches with default pull-down and maintaining signal integrity with programmable slew rate, drive strength, and hysteresis parameter settings

MachXO3D FPGA security features include:

On-chip flash memory – Bitstream and user data are protected from malicious attacks with OTP mode and password protection. The MachXO3D features an unalterable embedded security Module that implements a security mechanism compliant with the NIST SP 800-193 Platform Firmware Recovery (PFR) specification to protect, detect and recover firmware from unauthorized access.

o On-chip flash memory enables single-chip operation, instant-on, and dual-boot images for reprogramming and in-field updates in the event of a failure

· Flexible system for safe reprogramming – supports stable in-system updates:

o Safe dual-boot feature for reprogramming in the event of a failure

o Configuration engine prevents unauthorized access to configuration memory

o On-chip flash memory eliminates the need for external memory for instant start-up

o I/O supports multiple voltages, eliminating the need for GTL buffers and level shifters

o Programmable per pin
