New Arm IP Brings Smart Immersive Experience to Mainstream Market

Immersive experiences that used to be exclusive to high-end devices, such as AR, high-fidelity games, and new AI-based mobile and home use cases, have gradually become mainstream market demands. Enables developers to use high-performance AI and media IP solutions optimized for everyday devices, enabling new AI-driven use cases, offering features including speech recognition and always-on, no longer left to mobile devices time to enjoy.

Artificial intelligence is already ubiquitous from gaming devices to digital television (DTV), but to enable these responsive experiences, endpoints must have more computing power. For example, the intelligent experience of digital TV, including intelligent assistant voice commands, real-time program translation, and facial recognition to strengthen parental supervision.

In order to achieve these functions, Arm announced that it will launch two new mainstream ML processors, as well as the latest MaliGPU and DPU. The integration of these IPs represents Arm’s ability to tailor products to demand, bringing high-end experiences to consumers’ efficient everyday devices. This new IP suite includes:

Ethos-N57 and Ethos-N37 NPUs: Enabling AI applications and balancing ML performance with cost, area, bandwidth and battery life.

Mali-G57 GPU: The first mainstream GPU based on Valhall architecture, which can bring immersive experience through performance improvement

Mali-D37 DPU: achieves rich Display functions with the smallest chip area, making it the most suitable Display processor (DPU) for entry-level devices and small display screens.

Ethos-N57 and Ethos-N37 NPUs: Delivering True Heterogeneous Computing

Following the release of the Arm ML processor (now known as the Ethos-N77), the Ethos NPU family has added two new members, the Ethos-N57 and the Ethos-N37. The Arm Ethos portfolio is designed to address the challenges of complex AI and ML computing to create more personal and immersive experiences for everyday devices. As consumers’ devices become more intelligent, it is necessary to provide additional AI performance and efficiency through dedicated ML processors. The new Ethos is optimized for the most cost- and battery-life sensitive designs, and the NPU can bring a premium AI experience to everyday devices.

The design philosophy of Ethos-N57 and Ethos-N37 includes some basic principles, such as:

·Optimized for support of Int8 and Int16 data types

· Advanced data management technology to reduce data movement and associated power consumption

· Through the implementation of innovative Winograd technology, the performance is improved by more than 200% compared with other NPUs

In addition, Ethos-N57 features include:

Designed to deliver balanced ML performance and power efficiency

Optimized for a performance range of 2 trillion operations per second

Ethos-N37 features also include:

Designed to provide the smallest ML inference processor (less than 1mm2)

Optimized for the performance range of 1 trillion operations per second

Mali-G57: The GPU that brings intelligence and immersive experience to the general public

Mali-G57 brings high-quality intelligence and immersive experiences to the mainstream market, including high-fidelity games, video game console-like graphics effects on mobile devices, 4K/8K user interfaces for DTVs, and more complex virtual and augmented reality load. This is the largest segment of the mobile market segment, and Arm’s recent launch with Unity underscores its efforts to further performance optimization of Arm IP-based SoCs, CPUs, GPUs, which can give developers more time to create new immersive content.

Mali-G57 key features include:

1.3x performance density for various content compared to Mali-G52

30% higher energy efficiency ratio, longer battery life

Foveated rendering support for virtual reality (VR) and a 60% increase in on-device ML performance for more complex XR reality applications

For more information on the Mali-G57, see the Arm blog.

Mali-D37: Arm’s most efficient processor per unit area

Mali-D37 is a DPU that packs rich display and performance in the smallest possible area. For end users, this means that when area is a primary consideration, there will be better visual effects and lower cost devices such as entry-level smartphones, tablets, and small displays with a resolution of less than 2k. performance.

Mali-D37 key features include:

The unit area efficiency is extremely high. Under the configuration that supports Full HD (Full HD) and 2K resolution, the area of the 16nm process will be less than 1 mm2.

Save up to 30% in system power by reducing GPU core display work and memory management features including the MMU-600.

Retain key display features from the high-end Mali-D71, including the ability to mix high-dynamic-contrast (HDR) and standard dynamic-contrast (SDR) composite content when combined with Assertive Display 5.

For more information on the Mali-D57, see the Arm blog.

This new set of IPs is designed with solutions in mind and aligns with the original intention of Arm Total Compute to ensure that they are truly experience-driven and optimized for solving the complex computing challenges of future workloads. This new set of IP provides higher efficiency per unit area and more energy saving, while improving performance, reducing cost and reducing time to market, bringing higher fidelity games and console-like experiences to mobile devices, and providing DTV Brings computational complexity and brings higher ML performance to personalised immersive content and faster responsiveness that consumers expect.
